About

Why this project?

I am a first-year student in a BUT (Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie) in Multimedia and Internet Professions (MMI). This project was assigned to us for the first part of the training, running from September to January.

The project topic was a “Matilda” (a woman whose scientific contributions have been overlooked or attributed to men). I chose to focus on a female scientist in the field of autism after watching many episodes of a series I really enjoy, broadcast on France TV: Astrid et Raphaëlle, which I mention occasionally on the site. I loved Sara Mortensen’s performance as Astrid, an autistic investigator in the series. I think she plays the role incredibly well and portrays the daily life of one form of the autism spectrum. Seeing on screen the challenges these individuals face feels important and very interesting to me — especially since the series shows different forms of autism, particularly during the social skills groups the character attends.

Before this project, I didn’t know much about the topic. I was vaguely familiar with terms like Asperger’s syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but nothing more. Conducting this research and writing was very rewarding, and I invite you to read the detailed articles available on the site to learn more yourself.
